In the west-central San Francisco, you’ll find a large residential neighborhood, worth visiting. South of the Golden Gate Park, most of Sunset District’s buildings date from the 1920s to the 1950s. The Sunset District is bordered by the Ocean Beach, the Sigmund Stern Grove, the Golden Gate Park, the Laguna Honda Hospital and the campus of the University of California. Before the Sunset District was built, the sand dunes area was called the Outside lands.
The Sunset District is now formed of two distinct neighborhoods, the Inner Sunset and the Outer Sunset. Around Irving Street, the Inner Sunset offers excellent restaurants, great shops and intimate cafés. The Outer Sunset begins at 19th Avenue and includes 30 blocks to Ocean Beach. The south of the Outer Sunset is also known as Parkside, one of San Francisco’s most conservative communities.Almost half of the people living here are Asian Americans and there is also a large number of Irish Americans.
If you decide to visit the Sunset District, then you definitely shouldn’t miss the Church of St. Anne and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, offering classical music concerts for free. We will be waiting for you.
